1.11 pm,\nTrack 10,\ncarriage 2,\nseat 12,\nwindow.\nAll aboard!<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

A drawstring bag filled with magic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Essentials pulled out of my luggage \u2013\nwater bottle,\nbooks,\na drawstring bag filled with magic.\nTaiko drums in my ears.\n\nMy body greets the familiar rocking,\nthe beat of the tracks.\nTrees are rushing by.\nI am in motion.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

A sweet band in the colours of fruit drops.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
As I open the magic bag\nmy fingers tingle,\ngiddy from anticipation.\nI can weave at last.\nA six hour train ride\ncaptured in a sweet band\nin the colours of fruit drops,\nthe kind your granny would keep\nin a chrystal bowl\nfor special occasions only.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

A stick dressed in linen heddles spread across the knife tracks like a ruffled skirt.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
I tie a string around my waist,\nband lock holding the band in place.\nA whiff of juniper floats by.\nCoat hook on the seat in front of me\nsecures the warp in the other end.\n\nMy loom is simple \u2013\ntwo hand carved sticks,\ncherry I think,\ncontrol the shed.\nA third stick, maple perhaps,\ndressed in linen heddles\nspread across the knife tracks\nlike a ruffled skirt.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

Lean back to tense and  plop the shed open, forward to slack and switch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Lean back to tense and \nplop the shed open,\nforward to slack\nand switch.\n\nIf I listen I hear the song of the weave.\nA frrt to open the shed\nand welcome the pink butterflied weft,\na sound reminding me of\nthe first butterfly of spring,\nfluttering its wings\nto welcome the sun.\nTkk tkk\nas the shed sticks keep track of the beat\nin synch with the taiko drums.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

I lift the heddle stick\nand pull the weft through.\nTighten the selvedge,\nand tug\nuntil I feel the warp threads\nin place,\nside by side,\ncovering the weft\nwith fruit drop stripes.\n\nLeaning backwards\nI make the beat.\nAnother row added to the fell\nanother beat toward a band.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

I keep the weaving dance\nas the weave sings its weaving song,\ntrees moving south\nas I go north \nto snow covered ground.\nI beat the weft to the\nbeat of the drums,\nthe beat of the train.\nThe beat of my heart.\n\nThe motion of the train in my body,\nmy body as the loom\nmoving with the breath of the weave,\nthe up and down of the shed.\nI don't know\nwhere the motion begins\nor ends.\nA dance,\na song,\na journey \nand a beat.\nJust one more beat.\nOne more beat.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

7.27 pm\ntrack 3.\nI exit carriage 2\nin a new town,\nthe echo of the beat\nstill rocking my body.\nDrawstring bag closed,\nready to add some more magic\nto the ride back home.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
