An embroidery is the theme of today\u2019s blog poem. Enjoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A petal, a bud, a leaf, a stem.\nStitch by stitch an image reveals itself,\none right next to another.\nColour, shape, structure, texture \u2013\nI build the image\nthat wants to come alive\non the felted rectangle that is my canvas.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

Enraptured by the simple motion of the needle\nlike a breath floating in and out of my chest.\nI loose myself in the flow.\nI pull the yarn through gently\nuntil the newborn stitch lands snugly onto the felt,\nspooning itself next to its sisters, only seconds older.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

Down into the depths of the soft felt,\nup like a sprout of new yarn.\nIndeed, I'm planting the flowers I stitch.\nFor every stitch I add another layer \u2013\nthe outline,\nthe stems,\nthe positions of the flowers.\nFilling in any negative space\nwith colour,\nstructure\nand pure plant power.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

My yarn is rich and airy, the motifs overwhelming.\nFlowing, compact,\ngushing forcefully across the surface,\npainting it with cushiony flowers\nlike paw prints in the snow from the cat next door.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

My stitches are for the fiber artists before me, beside me and after me.\nAs I paint my wool with flowers\npeople of the past flutter by like a whispering sigh,\nshowcasing their richly embroidered \ncuffs, sleeves, suspenders and collars.\nSomething to flaunt on church Sundays \u2013\na decorated mitten, a pompous skirt hem\nflowing momentarily in a bench row.\nTelling the story of who they were and where they came from.\nAll painted with the richness of the stitches.\nEach execution a greeting from the artist and her skills.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

My stitches are for the fiber artists before me, beside me and after me.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
This embroidery is for someone I have never met.\nStill I know them.\nWe may live close or far apart,\nstill I am connected to them,\nstitch by stitch.\nWe are kindered spirits\nthrough the love of wool. <\/pre>\n\n\n\n

The sisters next to each other, flowers that fill the space, leaves complementing and stalks holding together.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
I want the receiver of my gift\nto know the love in my stitches,\nthe sisters next to each other,\nflowers that fill the space,\nleaves complementing\nand stalks holding together.\nI want them to feel the vibrations in my hands\nas I pull the needle through the felt,\nthe warmth in my soul\nas I add the next stitch\nand the next\nin my gift.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
